Roads give us freedom, adventure and connection. Sharing them well takes awareness, patience and respect from all of us.

An encounter made us take action.
One early Sunday morning, driving along a quiet country lane, we rounded a blind bend and suddenly found a horse and rider directly ahead.
We braked sharply and stopped in time, but the sudden encounter frightened the horse. The rider was trying to calm and regain control of it while we were left stationary on the bend.
Then came the thought that really stayed with us: what if another vehicle came around that same blind bend behind us?
Nobody wanted that situation. We had just gone out for an early-morning drive, thinking the roads would be at their quietest. Little did we know, the rider had been thinking exactly the same thing.
That was the moment this stopped being an observation and became something we felt we had to act on.
It made us ask a simple question: what if we could give people more warning before those journeys meet?
That question became Don't Scare The Horses.
We've built it. We've tested it. We know it works.
DSTH has moved well beyond an idea. We've invested significant time, money and expertise developing and testing the technology behind it.
We're deliberately keeping the detailed technical methods private. What matters publicly is simple: DSTH is designed to create useful advance awareness before a road user and a horse rider meet.

If you ride a horse, DSTH gives you a simple way to help approaching drivers know you're there before they meet you. But the network depends on riders using it consistently. Download it, start it and share your presence every time you ride. The more reliably riders take part, the more useful the network becomes for everyone.

The app is only the beginning. Our ambition is for DSTH awareness to reach drivers far more widely over time, ultimately becoming part of the places and systems people already use on the road. That will take time, adoption and the right partnerships, so please bear with us while we grow.

And our ambition goes beyond asking every driver to run a standalone app forever: over time, we want DSTH awareness to reach drivers through the technology and systems already travelling with them.

A few things we want to be clear about.
Is the technology already built?
Yes. We've invested significant time, money and expertise in development and testing, and the core technology has been proven. The next stage is growing participation and the network around it.
Why do horse riders need to use DSTH every time?
The network relies on participation. If riders only share their presence occasionally, the system can only ever be partially useful. Consistent use helps make DSTH more dependable for everyone.
Will every driver be warned from day one?
No. Universal awareness will take time. Rider participation needs to grow, more drivers need to adopt the service and wider routes for delivering DSTH awareness need to develop. We want to be upfront about that and ask people to bear with us while the network grows.
Exactly how does the technology work?
We'll explain what DSTH does and how to use it, but we won't publish the detailed technical logic, safeguards, thresholds or methods behind the system. Those are part of the technology we've developed.
Is supporting DSTH an investment?
No. A contribution supports the operation, continued development and growth of DSTH; it does not buy shares or ownership and does not offer a financial return.
